EXP Internship Program

Greetings 2019 EXP Interns,

Welcome to the next step in your internship journey, completing the EXP internship application. Please make sure the information you enter is accurate and up to date. If you have any issues in completing your application process  please reach out to your EXP school site representative. The deadline to submit your application is December 2019 (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Your first submission (Due December 2019)  will include the following:

*Complete the 2019 EXP Internship Application
*Answer the essay prompt in the space provided for the internship application:
  • Question: “How will the EXP summer Internship program serve as an essential part of reaching your long-term and short-term career goals?" (300 WORDS MINIMUM & 350 WORDS MAXIMUM)
*Upload your Resume to your Submittable account
*Upload your Cover Letter to your Submittable account
Use the follolwing link when submitting all required documents
***Reminder, in order to qualify for a paid internship, you must meet all deadlines and attend all workshops.***
ITEP will edit your Resume and Cover letter and submit them to your lead teacher the first week back from winter recess. You are then responsible to make any necessary changes to your documents and prepare to submit them for the final submission.

Your final submission is due by 5pm on the day of your 7th and final internship workshop. This submission will include the following:

*Upload your final resume to your Submittable account
*Upload your final cover letter to your Submittable account
*Upload your recent transcripts to your Submittable account
*Upload one letter of recommendation to your Submittable account

Please note: Failure to submit all required documents on time will result in a separation from the EXP internship program.

    1. Tell me something about yourself?

    3. What are your strengths?
    4. What are your plans after high school?
    5. Why do you want to work at the port?
    6. Do you work well with others?
    7. How do you spend your spare time?
    8. Why did you choose to volunteer at the specific place?
    9. Can you tell me about your best accomplishments?
        Why is that important to you?
    10. What is your favorite subject in school? Why?
    11. What is your least favorite subject in school? Why?

Appropriate Workplace Attire

  • Covered shoulders and knee length attire is considered appropriate
  • Shorts are not appropriate in the workplace
  • Hair shall be clean and neatly groomed
  • Shoes must be worn at all times
  • Don't wear excessive high heel shoes
  • No clothing that depicts crude, vulgar/profane or sexually suggestive language, slogans and or pictures that infer and/or promote drugs, tobacco, and alcoholic beverages, membership or support of any group(s), gang(s), language, graphics, pictures or drawings that degrade others based on race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or other related factors
  • Do not wear excessive or flashy jewelery
  • Do not wear really tight clothing
  • No sleeveless, strapless, or spaghetti-strapped clothing
  • No cleavage showing
  • Avoid wearing too much cologne or perfume
  • No tattoos showing, no body piercing showing. Wear only one earring per ear
  • Never chew gum
